First Dentist Visit At Age 1

Our office, as well as the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry, recommends that your child visit the dentist for the first time by 12 months of age. There are several reasons for this first visit:

  • To check for cavities — yes, unfortunately we do see cavities on one year olds.
  • To assess growth and development of teeth and jaws.
  • To review prevention, especially dietary habits.
  • To establish a “dental home” for your child. (If your toddler falls and breaks a tooth, the last thing you want is to be doing is looking for a dentist. If the first visit is by age one, your child is already established at our office.)
